Against decks with a lot of removal they have to kill it, which lets you just embalm it in the midgame
For only one more mana than Remove Soul, you outright countered any creature your opponent cast, plus got to draw a card
But now one deck is effectively converting most of its mana into this second, independent resource, which is almost as flexible in what it can buy but which DOESNT have that tricky use-it-or-lose-it restriction
For the longest time this was thought to be an error and done by accident, but thanks to the info presented in this thread by @styluspt , we now know it was most likely intended as the first English Secret Rare card instead
